Sensei Mura came to our school for half a term to introduce karate to our children. The sessions were easily accessible for all children from Reception to Year 6. Children took quickly to learning moves and enjoyed taking part in a new sport. Some of our children now hope to join a karate school. Pasq really focuses on performing the movements needed and ensured that everyone was engaged for the whole session. Most of all the children had a great deal of fun whilst being very active. Thank you Sensei!

I started Shotokan Karate aged 29 and 28 years later I am still loving it. It is never too late to start karate and as the tigers show never too early. Chilwell Karate is a friendly inclusive club which we all take pride in representing at regional, national and international level.

Rishi has gained so much in the last year with the Chilwell Olympia Karate School, Tigers group. He has learnt to focus well, his physical and motor skills have developed rapidly and it is an art beneficial in making a well-rounded person. The lessons are just the right combination of structured activities and games which the children enjoy at this age and encourage a healthy attitude. Rishi looks forward to continue his journey towards learning more at the Chilwell Olympia Karate School.

When my daughter decided to start karate in Year 3 once a week, I thought that she would quit in a few months or at the most a year’s time. It is because she was quiet and very timid and I did not think she would cope with the physical contact. Yet once a week became twice or three times a week and she did not like to be late at all and I realised that this was not just any activity for her. Just before she was grading for black belt in Year 8, I asked her why she liked to go karate training. Her answer touched me: “Mum, in addition to keeping me fit doing karate, I have gained confidence, I have learned discipline and I have also got to know a group of children who share the same interests as me. I look forward to attending the training and learning new challenges.

After several years away, I was warmly welcomed back by Pasq and everyone else at Chilwell. I immediately saw an improvement in my fitness. The classes are engaging and rewarding and I would recommend karate to anyone looking to try out martial arts.

Having completed my 9th Kyu and now eager to grade for the 8th Kyu in a couple of weeks, I am so pleased that I decided to join the School and amazed at what I have accomplished in just 5 months.
I have found that sensei Pasq and his team, along with sharing their knowledge, skill and patience, are all about discipline, hard work and developing confidence, alongside having fun and making new friends on the karate journey.
I encourage parents to consider karate in order to help instil confidence and positive self-esteem in their children as well as opportunities for socialisation. If adults have fitness goals and are looking for a good workout, karate will provide this, as it has done for me.Wayne Bungay

I’ve been training at Chilwell Karate since 2012 and have pretty much enjoyed every week I’ve trained at the club. After a few years of training it helped me to improve fitness and boost my confidence. Thanks to sensei Pasq’s great teaching I am proud to have achieved black belt and enter a few competitions including one overseas.

Great karate club to be part of whether you are a total beginner or an experienced karateka.
Great long standing teachers in John, who takes the lower grades and beginners, to Pasq who teaches the higher and more experienced grades.
Will not find a better qualified person when it comes to the technical aspects such as kata and equally when it comes to the kumite part (competitive fighting) simply based on the numerous World and European medals Pasq has accumulated.
Whether it is for fitness, flexibility or the karate itself you will struggle to find a better club or instructor and this applies to both young and old.Antonio Lacovara

My daughter started karate in November 2009 and my son in November 2013. Initially I enrolled them to learn self-defence. Since joining the karate school their physical fitness has improved as well as their self-control. Pasq is very patient with all his students and takes time to ensure that they understand what they need to do to ensure they progress through the grades. The higher grades help the lower grades in the school to ensure that their knowledge is passed on down the ranks. Everyone I have ever come into contact with is always helpful and kind. I would have no hesitation at all in recommending Chilwell Olympia Karate School

My son began training with the Chilwell Tigers at five years old and is now seven and training with the main karate school. The benefits have been noticeable in terms of confidence, concentration and general fitness. It is a friendly environment and very accommodating for all ages and abilities
